How To Know If Stress Is Affecting You

Stress can be positive (called 'eustress'). When the body tolerates stress and uses it to overcome lethargy or enhance performance, the stress is uplifting and healthy.

On the other hand, stress becomes negative (called 'distress') when it exceeds our ability to cope, fatigues you and causes interpersonal problems.

When we face continuous challenges without relief, tension builds. Excessive stress becomes dangerous as it accumulates without being released or discharged.

Our mental, emotional, and physical health gets worse the longer the stress lasts. You might feel fatigued, unable to concentrate, or irritable for no good reason. But continual or excessive stress causes physical wear and tear, too.

The basis of all life-forms is energy and a largely invisible life force exists everywhere, holding everything together. The ancients understood this intimately and called this life force Prana or Chi. Just because we do not see or understand this life force energy, we discard the powerful value of ancient practices. 

Emotions are 'energy in motion' and are as transient as the weather. Emotions are an integral part of a sentient human being, and as such are meant to be felt and experienced. This understanding is vital for our learning and growth as humans.

Emotions are not meant to be ignored, stifled and numbed by swallowing pills every day. Ironically, this insidious practice has created modern-day psychosis which is unnecessary and avoidable.

Today, this is the root of much of the stress, depression, eating disorders, fears, phobias, anxiety, panic, and trauma people suffer from within.

Our emotions actually hold profound and vital clues to health and well-being and are our greatest teachers. If only we would listen, and give credence to our innate wisdom.

The current medical fraternity fails to look at, and treat a person holistically. In many respects, Western medicine and science are completely off-track. Unfortunately, integrative and functional medicinal practices, who treat people holistically, are few and far between, and still in their infancy.

Of course, western-world pharmaceuticals are the 'money tree' of profiteering and greed, hence their perpetuation of an insidious and unhealthy system of pill-popping and drug addictions. This results in a chemical imbalance which can cause or contribute towards many severe illnesses and diseases.

Please do not get me wrong. The medical fraternity has its place, but not as the current status quo of profiteering to the hilt at the expense of humanity.  

Perhaps we should resort to the old Chinese culture's way where you only paid the doctor when you were well. If you got sick you did not pay because the doctor had not done his job, which was to keep you healthy!

I tried alternative therapies to relieve my stress without much success

You are not alone. Sadly, I have also heard this from many clients too. 

It is also one of the reasons my own healing journey took many years. And, also the reason I studied many alternative and complementary therapies such as Reiki, Reflexology, Meditation, Somatic healing, Psych-K, Jin Shin Yitsu, etc.
